Our goals (as part of GISLab):

  • Integrate data catalog with GISLab Data Warehouse.
  • Build an internal and external user base.
  • Be responsive to customer needs & feedback.
  • Provide GIS technical expertise to users.
  • Provide timely data updates to emergency managers.
  • Expand technical capabilities and data availability.
  • Look to future institutional GIS needs.
  • Become a trusted Lab resource.
  • Be attentive to evolving GIS technology and upgrade our capabilities.
  • Merge CGRP GIS web site with GISLab web site.

The next steps:

Who? Identify and coordinate with Lab and external stakeholders and GIS users.
What? Make the GIS capabilities and datasets known to potential users.
Which? Determine which data to store, and respond to evolving needs of users.
How? Develop and standardize procedures for managing and accessing data.
Why? Reveal the value of GIS for research, educating and decision-making.

Near-term plans:

  • A display with a touch-screen computer monitor will be placed in prominent locations at LANL and Los Alamos to show the new web-based access to the GIS and its fire datasets, maps and images.
  • Continual updates will be made to the web pages and data catalogs. See the "What’s New" page for details.
  • Interactions will be expanded with Internal and External Stakeholders.
